Golf’s rising popularity, fame and fortune has propelled the sport into something of magnitude, but without good golf courses and top quality complexes, players would be left putting on Astroturf. Professionals, such as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, have created a following of fans and many people look to follow in their footsteps, as with any star in any type of occupation. This increase in popularity and playing activity means that the golfing industry has to respond.

Golf course management has become an important and integral part of making sure that professional players continue to promote the sport. Golf complexes also provide many career opportunities to other people and they offer a varied selection of jobs for anyone to explore. Club pros, greens keepers, physiotherapists, photographers and writers enjoy plenty of exposure and a good, solid career thanks to golf courses and complexes. But all these spin off job markets rely on one very important occupation: golf course management.

Running a golf course is similar to any industry. There’s a certain amount of experience, training and know how required to have an effective facility that keeps members satisfied for continued patronage and encourages people to break into the sport of golf. While not every person is determined to have a PGA career, huge numbers of those hooked on the game of golf provide sales to facilities and jobs for the golfing industry. In the UK alone, four million people are involved in golfing and the popularity of the game in North America is even greater.

At this point, you may be asking yourself why you should look into golf course management as a career. The reasons are fairly simple. Top quality complexes need skilled employees to manage and oversee the well oiled functioning of their facilities. There’s an enormous amount of money involved in the golfing industry and complexes need to maintain the current standards that keep players coming back and provide exciting, new challenges to golfers. New greens are continually cropping up as experienced trainers learn the tricks and traps of courses and each facility needs to be better than the last, as well as providing stiff competition to other complexes. Competition, after all, only forces each facility to improve upon what already exists and increase the quality of what they offer to players.

Academies and colleges offer degrees in golf course management, so even someone who’s just getting into golfing can learn the ins and outs of running a complex. Most academies will offer training with emphasis on operations and management, and usually within two years, you’ll have a degree certifying your skills that makes you an attractive asset to any facility. A wide variety of courses within programs allow students to specialize in one area of the golfing industry or another, whether it is as golf pro or the general running of a complex. Programs are usually a blend of practical and classroom training, involving learning the in depth points of golfing as well as the business aspects of the industry.

Training in golf course management is provided by instructors that are usually PGA golf pros themselves, and the operational side of learning is provided by strong business leaders that will teach you the effective running of a golf complex, from the food industry to turf management. Human resources, sales and coaching are also integral parts of learning to work inside the golfing industry, which leaves you with a well rounded professional training and set of skills useful in any company or business. Many academies also provide extra training and coaching for those players who show the talent and ability to become PGA professional golfers themselves.

With a degree in golf course management, you’ll be able to provide services and facilities to not only the amateur golfer or weekend players but also the PGA pros. Every client is important to the longevity of the golfing industry and each situation you’ll face will only increase your personal value in the job market. Finding an academy or college that will provide you with the certification and skills you need is fairly easy, as even educational institutions themselves have noticed the increasing demand and responded with ample programs and varied courses to help you reach your occupational goals.

Golf Fitness Exercises and Golf Fitness Training

Golf fitness exercises and golf fitness training can increase the cluhead speed in your golf swing. The utilization of golf specific exercises in a structured golf fitness training program can benefit your golf game in numerous ways.

The golf swing is undoubtedly one of the most difficult athletic actions to perform in sports today. It requires you to draw the golf club on a specific swing path, in sequential order, and with the correct timing. Any error in path, order, or timing creates compensations in your golf swing leading to frustrations on and off the course.

Compensations in the golf swing are often categorized as “swing faults”, indicating that an error exists in the actual mechanics of the golf swing. The normal approach to correcting “swing faults” is through instruction from a qualified teaching professional and follow up practice. This is the correct approach in the development of the golf swing, but one must also understand the role their body plays in the game of golf.

The amateur often times is unaware the role in which their body plays upon the execution of the golf swing. Essentially it is your body (i.e. bones, muscles, and nerves) executing each and every phase of the golf swing.

In order to execute each phase of the golf swing correctly certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power are required. If a golfer is lacking in any one of these physical parameters required of the golf swing. Compensations will occur within it. Not from the actual bio mechanics of the swing, but rather from the body.

For example, if you are lacking the proper levels of flexibility to perform a full shoulder turn. Compensations will occur in the golf swing directly related to this lack of flexibility in the body. Often the amateur fails to realize the compensation is a result of their body and fails to ever “fix” or improve their golf swing as a result.

Bottom line, the golf swing requires certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power to execute correctly. If the amateur desires to improve their golf game some attention must be focused upon developing these parameters within the body.

The development of these physical components for the swing can be achieved through the implementation of golf fitness exercises in a golf fitness program. Such a program will develop the requirements of the body relative to the swing. Allowing you the ability to execute the golf swing correctly. Golf fitness exercises train the body to the positions, movement, and requirements of the golf swing. Over time these types of golf specific exercises will improve your flexibility, balance, strength, and power relative to the requirements of the golf swing. To learn more about golf fitness training and golf exercises go to my website www.seancochran.com where you will find an abundance of information on golf fitness and the golf swing.

Golf Equipments

Every game of golf is based on playing a number of holes in a given order. More particularly, golf is a sport where individuals or teams hit a ball into a hole using various clubs. Golf is one of the few games where no fixed standard playing area is necessary, but it is defined by a certain number of rules and it does need some particular golf equipments to be properly played if one dreams to going low, shooting that perfect score.

The Best Golf Equipment

There are a mind-blowing number of choices of golf equipments to used at the disposal of today’s players. This indeed makes it much harder for golfers-especially amateurs-to know which products will best fit their individual games’ needs. The fact of the matter is that playing with golf equipment that do not fit a golfer’s particular needs and experience can produce more harm than good, both in terms of scoring and enjoyment. Thus, collecting as much information as possible and learning the basics apart from any new technological developments on the golf equipments used today, becomes a must; both for golfers to make well-informed buying decisions and to get the most out of their games.

According to the golf game’s rules a player cannot carry more than fourteen clubs during a game. Thus, most of today’s golf players do possess multiple clubs but always carry no more than this maximum permitted club number. The major types of clubs are three and are referred to as woods, irons (wedges) and putters. Woods are used by golfers when they wish to go for a long shot from the tee or fairway, while irons are used mainly to cover precision purposes, like shots from fairways as well as from the rough. Wedges, which are iron clubs, are used for games played on difficult grounds, such as sand or the rough, and in order to approach shots to the green. But when a golf player is on the green, putters are mostly used. These clubs can also be useful when playing from bunkers or for some approach shots.

Apart from the number of clubs needed for a given game, the golfer has to carry golf balls and golf shafts. With a surface that has a pattern of 300-400 dimples designed to improve the ball’s aerodynamics, modern golf balls have a two-, three-, or four-layer design constructed from various synthetic materials. But depending on the method of construction and the materials used, a golf ball’s characteristics can be greatly affected-such as distance, trajectory, spin and feel. Golf shafts are used between the grip and the “club head”. The profile of the golf shaft is circular in shape, while some of the strongest and lightest materials are used for its production. Graphite and tempered steels are used for the best strength. The latest, USGA approved, profiles are the Triangle Golf Shafts or Trigraphite Shafts, introduced in 2006.

Finally, golf tees are used to place the golf balls on top before hitting them with the golf clubs. Usually made of wood or plastic tees resemble nails with a small cup on their heads and are pushed into the ground for the balls to rest upon. Most of a golfer’s equipment items are carried in golf bags and golfers prefer to wear special shoes with exchangeable spikes attached to the soles for a better grip onto the grass. Some also prefer wearing gloves (one of the golf equipments) to help their grip when handling the golf club and prevent blistering from occurring.
